There are so many organizations within a community that are invaluable! Anything from the schools, to the police and fire departments, to the hospitals and clinics. Do you remember to thank them for their service? I tend to forget so this week we gave the Gift of Chocolate to a local 24 hour Emergency Room/Urgent Care. I know a couple of people who work there and they deserve some chocolate!
I went shopping at Walmart with my daughter Vanessa to gather the supplies and chocolate! You can check out our shopping trip here. We purchased Snickers Minis, 3Musketeers Minis, Twix Minis, Milky Way Minis, Snickers Fun Size, Snicker Almond Fun Size, Snickers Peanut Butter Fun Size, Pretzel M&M’s, Peanut M&M’s, Milk Chocolate M&M’s, Peanut Butter M&M’s and Dove Peanut Butter Milk Chocolates.
We had 12 jars to fill and we had 12 varieties of candy. I washed the jars and my kids helped me fill them!
Using scrapbooking paper with fall leaves in 3 colors, I traced the lids and cut out the circles. I attached the paper circles to the lid with glue spots. Then, I attached the lid to the band with a hot glue gun.
I bent the handles on 4 spoons I purchased. We put the spoons into the jars with the M&M’s to be used as scoops.
Then, we added the lids to the jars.
We’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to give to others a couple of other times recently by donating school supplies to someone in the community and by donating supplies to a teacher! It is something that I enjoy involving my kids in.
I grabbed the Gift of Chocolate Tray and headed to the 24 Hour Emergency Room/Urgent Care with my kids and my niece, to deliver. As is to be expected, the staff at the ER was busy but their eyes lit up at the site of the chocolate! I heard:
“Oh my!”
“That’s for us?”
“Wow! Look at that!”
“It’s like Happy Halloween!”
“We don’t know who you are but since you come bearing gifts so come on back!”
and of course “Thank you!”
They led me to the woman I know, who showed me to the break room. We put the Gift of Chocolate Tray on the counter in the empty break room along with a thank you card for the staff. So, when they do get the opportunity to take a break they will get to enjoy some chocolate at the same time and know that they are appreciated!
Have you ever had the opportunity to do this sort of thing? I would love to hear about your experience!

As one who works in health care, I want to say, “Thank you.” Unfortunately, many people do not remember nurses unless they had a recent bout in the hospital.
And, I love the spoon idea.

this is a great idea & i love your photos. i had a thought while reading this & just wanted to share my (cheap) idea….next Tuesday, the day AFTER halloween the stores will put their candy on sale, a person could really rack up on the candy for these and save some money, with the extra $ in your pocket you could afford to make a larger number of these and gift even more folks 🙂

PS: What a nice idea for the Emergency Department. My brother is the Head of the Emergency Dept. at a local hospital! Although he is in Iraq this past year, I know if I walked in his work with jars like these they would go crazy! They all work so hard and have to deal with so much stress and heartache sometimes. Emergency rooms are crazy so any little things would make them happy! I was just in the hospital that I normally am not fond of but I met the nicest doctor and the nicest nurse who was there for me. I have a cervical spine injury. So I am thinking I would like to bring in something for the doctor and nurse to say thank you when I needed them. They really cared for me and knocked out the pain for me, thank goodness! Thank you again for the idea!

Those jars are simple yet adorable and eye appealing! I have to buy canning jars, they are so rustic and I think everyone should have them on hand! I think this would make a great treat to my daughter’s teachers for Halloween. She still gifts her previous teachers and this would also be great for the principle and the ladies in the office since they could all share! Thank you for the idea! Making my mommy days a lot easier! HUGS!!!!
HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN DEAR!
