Try this Chocolate Mint Lip Balm recipe for a homemade gift or have older girls make it at a birthday party! The homemade lip balm tastes delicious!
I admit it, I am crazy for lip balm. If I don’t have it, I kind of start to panic. Making your own lip balm is really fun and super easy.
The best part is that you can make it any flavor you want. I am working on a Chocolate Mint Mason Jar so today recipe is for Chocolate Mint Lip Balm. Enjoy!

Melt white beeswax pellets in a double boiler or in the microwave.
Stir in cocoa powder until smooth.
Add the coconut oil, sweet almond oil and peppermint oil and stir to combine.
Pour into three small plastic containers. I used these 5 gram sized containers. They are tiny but work great for adding to a purse or bag because they don’t take up much space.
Allow the lip balm to harden. Then, attach Chocolate Mint Lip Balm labels to the jars.

How to prevent the cocoa powder from sinking at the bottom of the container while cooling down?
Tonia says
Hi Hannah,
I never ran into that issue. I believe the cocoa powder is suspended in the fats in the coconut oil but I’m not sure on the science of it. Are you having an issue with it sinking?
Best,
Tonia

Hi nice recipe! May you please tell me the shelf life of this lip balm?
Tonia says
Thank you, Mary! I’m not sure what the shelf life is. From what I found online the suggested shelf life is 2-3 months for a homemade lip balm without preservatives. But it would depend on so many things from preparation methods, moisture levels, storage practices, as well as when the lip balm was put into use.

Hi I love the recipe but I’m curious as to, if you have to use only white bees wax? I have only been able to get the yellow
Tonia says
Yes, you can use the yellow beeswax. The only difference will be in the final color of your lip balm.
Sarah says
Can you use cocoa butter instead of coconut oil?
Tonia says
Hi Sarah,
Although I’ve never tried that, I think cocoa butter would work instead of coconut oil. Enjoy!

We have an almond allergy. Do you have to use the sweet almond oil?

You should be able to use another liquid oil instead. Enjoy! ~Tonia
