Make a cute Halloween Simmer Pot and a Pumpkin Spice Simmer Pot to give as gifts. Be sure to keep some for yourself, too!
Cooler autumn weather is the perfect time to simmer potpourri on the stovetop to make your house smell amazing! You can make a Halloween version and a pumpkin spice version. The supplies are the same, but the labels are different.
How To Make A Halloween Simmer Pot
Supplies You’ll Need
- Small Jars With Lids: I found these on Amazon. You can also use small mason jars or cellophane bags.
- Baker’s Twine: Colorful baker’s twine looks really pretty. You can also use ribbon or yarn.
- Jar Labels: I made some adorable labels for the jars that you can download, print, and cut out for your jars.
- Dried Oranges: They add color and make a citrus scent.
- Dried Apples: They look pretty in the jars and in the pot of simmering water.
- Cinnamon Sticks: Ground cinnamon will also work, but it won’t look the same.
- Vanilla Beans: If you don’t have them on hand, you can skip them or add a little vanilla extract to your simmering pot of water when you go to use the jar.
- Whole Allspice: I used whole allspice, but you can also use ground allspice.
- Crystalized Ginger: You can also use ground ginger, but crystalized ginger looks so pretty.
- Nutmeg: I used ground nutmeg, but if you have whole nutmeg, you can use that if you prefer.
Put three orange slices, three dried apple slices, two cinnamon sticks, three vanilla bean pieces, one tablespoon of crystallized ginger, one teaspoon of whole allspice, and one teaspoon of ground nutmeg.
Choose the labels you want for each jar. For the Halloween simmer pot, I used black and white twine to attach it.
A pumpkin spice simmer pot is perfect for the whole autumn season and for holidays from Halloween to Thanksgiving. I attached the label with orange and white baker’s twine.
How To Make Dried Fruit
To dry the apples and oranges for the jars, you can bake them in the oven. Slice them into thin slices, pat them dry with paper towels, place them on baking sheets, and bake at 225˚F for 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours, turning them occasionally.
Or, if you have a dehydrator, follow the instructions for your brand.
How To Use A Simmer Pot Jar
To use the jar, fill a medium saucepan 3/4 of the way with water and bring it to a simmer over low heat. Add the contents of the jar and simmer, adding more water as needed to keep the water level MORE THAN halfway full.
Simmer Pot Labels
I made two different labels: one for the Halloween jars and one for the pumpkin spice jar. Download the labels, print them on cardstock, cut them out, and use a hole punch to make the holes.
