Mini Bow Hair Clips

pretty little hair clips

I was invited by Steph @ Crafting In The Rain to join her craft series, called Make A Splash, where she chooses a craft supply and the challenge is to make something using that item.  The craft supply for February was bows so I had a fabulous, groundbreaking idea….
make pretty little hair clips with bows

Oh wait…they’ve been done before…now what?  Ummm…I’ll just make them anyway!

These clips are super easy to make.  You just need ribbon, clips and a hot glue gun.  I chose this style of hair clips because I feel like they stay in better than other styles but you can use any kind you like.

glue ribbon on clip

Hot glue one end of the ribbon to the underside of the clip.  Next, put hot glue along the top of the clip and attach the ribbon.  Now it is easy to tell how much ribbon you will need to tuck the last side under, so cut the ribbon.

cover hair clip with ribbon

Glue the final end of ribbon to the underside of the clip.

glue bow

Make a loop from the other piece of ribbon so that it is slightly smaller than the clip and hold it together in the center with some hot glue.

Attach the loop to the clip.

add strip of pink ribbon

Cut a small piece of the first ribbon and glue it so that it is centered on the clip.

tuck ribbon underneath

Then, tuck the ends underneath and glue them down.

Now isn’t that sweet?

Then, since they are so easy to make, grab some more ribbon and do it again.  Sometimes I add gems or buttons and I like to attach them to brightly colored card stock.  When I make these hair clips to sell, I punch a hole in the center top and that makes them easy to hang.

These are really cute Tonia. You know, those clips are so hard to find over here. I need to find a wholesale hairdressing supply place. Might have some luck there. The way my daughter goes through hair clips, I’d use them all up!

Done before doesn’t matter when you create something this adorable. We call them kiki’s in our family :0)

Well since my little hair clip days have been over for a while I rarely pay attention to them. However, now that I have a pretty little blonde 1 year old currently sitting on my lap, I think I could make some of those and impress my daughter in law.

Thanks again for playing in Make a Splash!
I wish I would have had your easy instructions 8 years ago when I was trying (and failing) to make up my own little clips for my first baby 🙂
